It was Sunday. Our teacher Mr. Zhu led us to a park nearby. Usually we go to the park to spend our holiday. But today we went there to take part in voluntary labor. We got there at nine o’clock. Mr. Zhu divided us into three groups and then we began working. Group One was responsible to plant trees and water flowers. Group Two were busy collecting litter left by the tourists. I was in Group Three. We went to the children’s playground and cleaned all the equipment there. We worked very hard. At about eleven we finished work. We all were tired but very happy. My name is Holly. I’m thirty-seven years old. I’m from Beijing. I’m a math teacher in a primary school. My school is far away from my home, so I usually drive to work. My Home 我的家
I am living on the 10th floor of a tower building with my wife and daughter. It is a newly-built block of flats with 22 stories altogether in the north of the city. We have three bedrooms, one big living-room, one kitchen and two bathrooms. The size is about 127 square meters. When we moved in three years ago, I painted the doors myself, but I had the window frames painted. We are satisfied with the decorations except the cupboards in the kitchen, so I need to build them again. The neighbourhood is nice too. I think my home is cozy and I like my home.
My Dormitory Room
My dormitory room is on the second floor. It is small and crowded. The dark green walls and the dirty white ceiling make the room seem dark, and thus even smaller than it is, As youwalk into the room, you are stopped short by my bed which fills half of the room. The two large windows over the bed are hidden by heavy dark gold drapes. Against the wall on your left, pushed into a corner behind the head of the bed, is a large bookcase which is crammed with papers, books, and knick-knacks, Wedged in between the bookcase and the wall opposite the bed is a small grey metal desk. It has a brown wooden chair which seems to fill the left end of the room.Stuffed under the desk is a wooden wastepaper basket overflowing with paper and debris. The wall above the bookcase and desk is completely taken up with two small posters. On the right hand of the room is a narrow closet with clothes,shoes, hats, tennis racquets, and boxes bulging out of its sliding doors. Everytime I walk out of the door, I think, "NowI know what it is like to live in a closet."
My Favorite Sport
My favorite sport is swimming. There are three reasons why I like the sport best.
First, it is good for keeping fit. It benefits the heart, the lungs（肺）and the limbs（四肢）. Thanks to the sport, I lost my weight and am graceful in form.
Second, it is easy to find a place to swim. In the country, I can swim in lakes and rivers. In the city, there are many swimming pools spotted among the residential areas.
Third, it can be done in any weather. It is very cool swimming in hot summer. In cold weather, swimming is especially refreshing.
Swimming is a very popular sport. I hope you can enjoy it too.
Hobbies and Interests
From Monday until Friday most people are busyworking or studying, but in the evenings and off weekends they are free to relax and enjoy themselves. Some watch television or go to the movies;others participate in sports.It depends on individual interests. There are many different ways to spend our spare time.
Almost everyone has some kind of hobby. It may be anything from collecting stamps to making model airplanes.Some hobbies are worth a lot of money; others are valuable only to their owners.
I know a man Who has a coin collection worth several thousand yuan. A short time ago he bought a rare ten-yuan piece worth 250 yuan. He was very happy about the purchase and thought the price was reasonable, on the other hand, my son collects match boxes. He has almost 600 of them but I doubt if they are wortfi any money. However, to my son they are extremely valuable. Nothing makes him happier than to find a new match-box for his collection.
That's what a hobby means, i guess. It is something we like to do in our spare time simply for the fun of. it. The value in money is not important, but the pleasure it gives us is.
Planting Trees
It was fine on March 12 ， 2001 . I got up early that day . All the students in our school went to the hill to plant trees .
We arrived at the hill at eight o'clock . The teacher asked each of us to plant at least six trees . Then we started digging ， planting and watering . We all worked so hard that we could finish our tasks ahead of tim e . Among us ， Wang Lin ， our monitor set a good example for us . Though he was ill ， he worked harder . When he finished his task ， he went on to help others without even a little rest . He was wet all over after work .“ I must learn from him ，” I said to myself . Looking at the lines of the young trees ， we smiled happily ， forgetting our tiredness .

It was fine last Sunday. We went to West Hill by bus. Some students planted trees, others carried water. Because we worked hard, we were tired, but we felt happy. We all know trees can stop the wind from blowing the sand towards the city, and they can make the city beautiful.
My English Studies
I have been learning English for more than twenty years. Recalling my English studies, I would like to share some good ways and some frustrations with you.
First, I am independent in English studies. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, I try to find the patterns and rules on my own.
Second, I am an active English learner. I never wait for a chance using English. I look for such a chance, and create an language environment by myself. I am willing to make mistakes and not afraid of losing face.

An Unforgettable Experience
Last summer, I went to Beidaihe for my holiday with my family. We took a train because the way is not far. We lived in a big hotel where could see the sea . We stayed there for three days.
The first day, we went for a walk along the seaside, and then we went swimming and took a lot of interesting photos there. The second day, we went to a famous market and bought many keepsakes. I was going to bring these keepsakes for my friends. The last day, we had a good picnic on the seaside with the natives. They acted all kinds of programmes and made us feel happy.
It’s a very good journey, and we all enjoyed ourselves on those days. If I have another holiday, I will go there again.
Don’t Lose Your Courage
Never shall I forget the first English lesson given by Miss Liu. On that day， when she entered the classroom， we found that she was a young and beautiful lady with a big smile on her face. Then she introduced herself saying that we should call her Miss Liu instead of Teacher Liu， a moment later， she let all of us go to the blackboard and say something about ourselves in English in turn. When it was my turn， I felt so shy and fearful that I didn’t dare to say a word before the class. She came up to me and said kindly， “Don’t be afraid. I believe you can do it. Traffic problems have become one of the major problems in cities. Streets are always crowed with vehicles and pedestrains, especially in rush hours. What is more, traffic accidents have made streets become one of the most dangerous places. But why is this problem becoming more and more serious in spite of the continuous improvement of traffic facilities?
The rapid increasing population is a goot explanation of the answer. More people means heavier traffic. Moreover, because more space has to be used to meet the needs of the housing problem, it is almost impossible to widen the streets, which makes the situ ation even worse. Then, how can we solve this problem?
More measures should be taken to deal with this problem. For example, rigid rules and regulations of rewards and penalties should be established to make people more careful on the streets, in addition, much more efforts should be made to put the population planning policy into practice.
My winter vacation
During the winter vacation, nothing is different for my life. I wake up 11 o’clock Am everyday, after a washing, I have a good lunch with my parents. Next I play computer games till the time to have supper. After have dinner. I go on playing till 2 o’clock Am, and then go to sleep with tired. This is one dull day of my winter vacation.
But I haven’t bored all the time. Sometimes I read the books, sometime I listen to the music or the radio in the bed，because it was very cold outside and snowy all the day. And I also meat some of my good friends during the vacation ,we have a very long talk about the life of each other in the past year and play table tennis tegether .And I watched the spring festival party of the CCTV in the last seconds of the 2004 year! I think this is the thing most people of china doing at that time.
That’s all, all my dull, coldly and snowy winter vacation.
Fast Food
Fast food is becoming more popular in China, especially among children and teenagers. Today, it's certainly difficult to think of any other single thing that represents the fast pace of modern society as powerfully as fast food.
There are several reasons for its popularity. First, it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. The trends of modern society seem to all point to one ultimate goal —— saving time, and fast food well serves this purpose. You just go into a fast food restaurant, order your food, and your food is ready in no time. You can either eat it there or take it away. Second, its popularity is also attributed to the clean and comfortable environment of fast food restaurants, the excellent service, and the guaranteed qualith of food.
However, in terms of nutrition, fast food is far from satisfactory. It usually does not compose a balanced diet and is low in nutritional value. Thus, doctors suggest that people, especially children, eat fast food as little as possible.
Although cooking at home is time — consuming and the following washing-up tiresome, it offers healthy and delicious meals your body likes and needs. Fast food is only a good choice when you are in a hurry and turn to it once in a while.
Bikes or Cars(自行车还是汽车)
Americans like to go out by car. Although more and more Chinese own cars,most Chinese still like to ride bicycles, This is determined by a lot of factors.
As we all know, the bike advances slowly by manpower, but it can be placed wherever it is convenient However, as for the car, although it can run fast by engine, it must be parked at parking places.
Most Americans live in the suburb which is far from urban areas and their working places. So they need cars to go shopping and go to work. And they also like traveling far. Thus a car brings them great convenience. On the contrary, most Chinese live near their working areas and markets. They don't need a car to go to work or go shopping.
I would like to ride a bike, because it costs little and it is easy to use and won't cause pollution.
Mobile Phone(手机)
As can be seen from the charts more and more people own mobile phones in China now. At the end of 2002, there were 20 million mobile phone users. By the year 2005 the number has reached up to 30 million. People have found mobile phones very convenient. They can get in touch with each other whenever and wherever they like. There are many different functions to meet different needs, such as sending short messages and surfing the Intemet.
However, it may also bring us some trouble. For example, if someone calls you by mistake, you will have to pay for this kind of unnecessary calls. And the radiation from the phone may do harm to our health, In spite of this, the number of people having mobile phones is still increasing steadily.
My Opinion on Cell Phones
Cell phones do play an important role in people’s daily life, but every coin has its two sides.
To start with, as a wireless mobile phone, it’s convenient for the user at any time to contact others. Secondly, it’s helpful companion. With a multifunctional cell phone in hand, one can easily surf the net, downloading what he needs.
However, the cell phone has many disadvantages. For one thing, the machine itself is very expensive and its local service is very costly, not to mention its global service. For another, the radiation from the mobile phones might do harm to the user’s heath.
In my opinion, with its expenses being reduced sharply after China’s entry into the WTO, its development will have a brighter future. Therefore its advantages will far outweigh its disadvantages.
My Views on the Internet
Internet plays an important role in our life. First, The world gets smaller and communication becomes easier and faster, because through the Internet we can get to know people from all over the world. Besides, we can work at home by sending email and accessing online information. Finally, online shopping makes our life more convenient.
But as many other modern inventions, Internet has its problems. For instance, there is too much junk information on the net, and it wastes our time. Even worse, some evil persons commit crimes using the Internet technology.
Thousands of people have fallen in love with the Internet. It’s necessary to adopt stricter administration measures so that it will serve us better.

I am for the development of public transport. If bus and subway service is good, people don’t have to drive their own cars. That’s the only solution.

Many things have been done and great progress has been made in the greenization of our cities in recent years. Many trees have been planted and much care has been taken of the planted trees. But, in spite of all this, greenization in the cities in China is far from satisfactory compared with cities in other countries in the world. For example, the green space for every people in Shanghai is only 2 square meters while that of the people in London exceeds 20 square meters.
We can benefit much from the greenization of our cities. First, trees absorb carbon dioxide which is harmful, but produce oxygen which is essential to human beings. Secondly, with trees all around, our cities will look more beautiful. Thirdly, trees can improve the climate of the cities, making it neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.
